Carlos R. Rodriguez, M.D., FAAFP
Carlos R. Rodriguez, M.D., FAAFP became the Director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship and Assistant Director to the Family Residency Program in August 2011.  Dr. Rodriguez received his B.A. in Biology from Harvard University in 1989.  He completed his medical degree at the Rosalind Franklin University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School in North Chicago, IL in 1993.  Following medical school Dr. Rodriguez completed a General Surgery Internship at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA.  He then joined the United States Navy where he served as General Medical Officer on the USS Shreveport, the Naval Base in Norfolk and the Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia from 1994 to 1997.  After completing his active duty commitment he remained in the United States Naval Reserve until 2002 when he was Honorably Discharged.
Dr. Rodriguez completed his Family Medicine Residency Program at The Medical Center of Central Georgia/Mercer University School of Medicine in 2001 where he served as Chief Resident during his final year and received the Resident Teacher of the Year Award.  He then proceeded to complete a fellowship in Sports Medicine here at Bayfront Medical Center.  After finishing the fellowship program Dr. Rodriguez remained in the Tampa Bay area in private practice and later joined Community Health Centers of Pinellas where he served as Director of the Family Medicine Department and Chair of the National Electronic Health Records Committee for Health Choice Networks until joining the Family Medicine Residency Program.
Dr. Rodriguez has served as a team physician and provided medical coverage for many of our local sports.  These activities include the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Eckerd College and University of South Florida sports, St. Anthony’s Triathlon, St. Petersburg Parrots, Seminole High School, Indian Rocks Christian School and the Tampa Bay Storm.  He is also a licensed professional ringside physician and provides medical coverage for professional boxing and mixed martial arts in Florida.
Dr. Rodriguez is a diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine.  He is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, a member of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Sports Medicine and the Association of Ringside Physicians.
Dr. Rodriguez is married and has three children.  He enjoys playing golf and tennis but loves to spend his spare time watching his son play soccer and his daughters participate in competitive cheerleading.
 
David Parrish, M.D.
David Parrish, M.S., M.D., FAAFP became Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program in November 2001 and has served as Faculty in the residency program since 1987. He has recently taken on the role of Sports Medicine Director as well.  Dr. Parrish received his B.S. in Education from Alabama's Auburn University in 1970 and a Masters Degree from UAB in Pathology in 1979. He graduated from the University of Alabama Medical School in Birmingham in 1981, and then spent three years in the Family Medicine Residency Program at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Pensacola. He was a U.S. Navy Family Physician for two years at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and later served as Director of Residency Training at the Naval Hospital in Charleston. At Bayfront he has coordinated resident recruiting, has lead in the development of residents' procedural skills including maternal care and delivery, and continues to be active at All Children's Hospital next door. He has served on multiple boards and committees locally and nationally including the Pinellas County Medical Association, Florida Academy of Family Physicians, and Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors. He served two terms as Chief of the Medical Staff at Bayfront. Dr. Parrish holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine, completed the National Institute for Program Director Development, is AHA ACLS Affiliated Faculty and National Advisory Faculty for ALSO. Dr Parrish has numerous publications and is a well know speaker locally as well as nationally. His many outside interests include scuba diving, jogging and hiking.
